ISOC-AU National Telecommunications Policy- Have Your Say

On Monday 19 May 2008, small businesses, telecommunications consumers and providers had their say on national and local broadband issues. Internet Society of Australia (ISOC-AU) representitives were in Ballarat for one day to discuss current and future broadband needs, options and delivery platforms.

The 4 hour forum, held at Oscar's Hotel & Cafe Bar, raised significant and crucial issues that affect both individuals and businesses on a regular basis. Broadband effectiveness and efficiency can play a key role in an organisations ability to meet deadlines and perform at their optimum capacity. All participants agreed that broadband issues contributed significantly to their business and therefore changes are crucial to their businesses success in the future.

Participants found this event to be very interesting and stated that they 'enjoyed listening to the issues that were discussed, as well as the relaxed atmosphere of the forum, which made it easy to talk to other people that attended.' 'The event brought together a range of view points- and these were constructively debated'. One guest stated that it was 'valuable to have government delegates attend to ensure the messages are being heard'.

One particular attendee responded that they 'found the event very useful in gaining a much broader perspective into the current issues that are related to making fast and affordable internet access possible in rural Victoria'.

The Internet Society of Australia is supported by the Australian Goverment through the Consumer Representation Grants Program of the Department of Broadcasting, Communications and the Digital Economy in covening this Forum.
