C-ing into Ballarat's Future
Enterprise Magazine November 06
cBallarat and the University of Ballarat have formed a partnership to work on the next generation of the ICT strategy for Ballarat.
The partnership will develop the fourth generation of the original ICT strategy, started in 1994, which will be known as ICT 2030.
The development of ICT 2030 continues to build on Ballarat’s reputation as the Regional ICT Capital of Australia, which has been progressively developed over the past 12 years.
cBallarat, auspiced by the City of Ballarat and chaired by Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, is responsible for mapping the future direction of ICT for Ballarat and is leading a number of innovative and pioneering ICT projects.
Mr Hancock said the development of ICT 2030 will feature active community consultation and engagement as the continued development of ICT capability, investment and employment creation was a critical part of Ballarat’s future economic development.
“Ballarat competes in the global economy for ICT investment and we must have a clear way forward that we can promote to international investors and governments,” Mr Hancock said.
“The development of ICT 2030 will provide essential information into the future Destination Ballarat campaign that will be designed to promote the city as a prime regional destination to live, work and invest.”
University of Ballarat Vice Chancellor Professor David Battersby said he was delighted to be working with the council and cBallarat on such a critical project, and that it was an indication of the strong working relationship between the parties.
He acknowledged the work of university staff in putting together a successful proposal for a highly sought-after project.
