eHealth and ICT update

The eHealth and ICT Forum held on 3 April 2008 at the University of Ballarat Technology Park focused on identifying opportunities to collaborate on projects which link health and ICT. We would like to provide an update on the project ideas which have progressed to date and ask you to provide further input and feedback.

Multimedia Victoria eHealth Forum

The Multimedia Victoria eHealth Forum will be held on Thursday 15 May 2008 between 10.30 am and 12 midday at Level 46, 55 Collins Street Melbourne. Click here to view background and registration information.

Multimedia Victoria has indicated that the purpose of this event is to gauge interest in the formation of a Victorian eHealth Network. Once established this network would meet regularly and would be a forum that would support information exchange, ideas, peer-to-peer networking, skills/recruitment, product/service showcasing, collaborative opportunities, research knowledge exchange, export support, trade fair support and a government information channel on matters related to eHealth.

eHealth and ICT Prospectus and/or Capability profile

The City of Ballarat has drafted a brief for the development of the eHealth and ICT Prospectus and/or Capability profile with associated case studies, materials and resources. Before the City of Ballarat commences the process of engaging a consultant to undertake the work they would like to confirm that the draft brief is in line with expectations and priorities of eHealth and ICT Cluster stakeholders.

Regional implementation of Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS)

The Collaborative Centre for eHealth is interested in identifying organisations that may be interested in collaborating on a Patient Identification Project. A potential project would be to set up a regional XDS implementation and involve as many health organisations as are willing to share information.

Assistance in uptake of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) in the region

Research and development focused on eHealth and ICT

National Health and Hospital Reform Commission

We would like to raise awareness of the opportunity to respond to the call for submissions to the National Health and Hospital Reform Commission. Priorities identified through background information include:
  • Strengthening prevention and wellness - through broad partnerships
  • Value for money - local flexibility, introduction of new technology driven by evidence and cost-effectiveness, smooth transfer of information at each step of the care pathway
  • Providing for future generations - education and training of health professionals across the education continuum; recognition of the broader environmental influences shaping health
  • The need for responsible spending on health – Information and communication technologies, in particular should be harnessed to improve access in rural and remote access on a cost effective basis, to support and extend the capacity of all health professionals to provide high quality care.
