Forty-two (42) people attended the UBTP & BITS Breakfast held at the Greenhill Enterprise Centre on 16 December 2009.

Guest speaker, Ivan Slavich Chief Executive Officer of TransACT Communications Pty Ltd and Head of Retail Operations for ActewAGL shared his insights into the complex and sometimes politically hot telecommunications sector with a number of questions and comments related to Nataional Broadband Network

Ivan spoke about the benefits that consumers are achieving in the ACT and surrounding region through the bundling of services such as electricity, gas, water, telephone, broadband, pay TV and mobile phone service. TransACT is known through the operations of Neighbourhood Cable in Ballarat, Mildura and Geelong.

In terms of infrastrucutre, Ivan spoke about the importance of getting the best platforms in place for fast spped communication and the rapid uptake of emergin technologies so that innovation in all areas of business and community life can be supported.

One very strong point that Ivan made was that it not only makes sense that fibre to the home makes sense in new developments and suburbs – but that it should be mandated.
