UBTP & BITS BREAKFAST 16TH SEPTEMBER 2008

This month's University of Ballarat Technology Park and Ballarat IT Specialists Breakfast welcomed Stephen McCombie. Stephen is the Senior Manager of nabCERT at the National Australia Bank. nabCERT's responsibilities include cybercrime response, computer forensics, security research and strategic IT threat intelligence.

Stephen's presentation focussed on

• Eastern European Organised Cybercrime
• Introducing the Cybercrime Research Lab at Macquarie University
• How the hacking environment has changed
• How financial industry phishing has changed things
• Who the people are doing the phishing, and
• what we can expect in the future

This breakfast attracted strong support with 46 UB Tech Park and Ballarat ICT Cluster members attending. Participants were keen to have their questions answered by Stephen, and gained very valuable insight into actions that can help to protect their businesses and their clients.

The next Breakfast will be held on 21 October, 2008 at the Greenhill Enterprise Centre Conference Room. The Guest presenter will be Ms. Margot Ingoldby, Manager Smart SMEs – Market Validation Program, and colleagues from the Technology & Innovation Division of the Department of Industry, Innovation and Regional Development (DIIRD).
